Reasons I Chose Laminate Flooring For My Home

After I moved into my current apartment, one of the first things I had to do was change the floors. The kitchen had a severely damaged bamboo floor whose colour I didn’t like at all, and in the rest of the rooms, the floors were covered with carpets (which I personally hate due to my allergy to dust). Because I had spent all my savings on purchasing my new place, it was clear to me that getting real hardwood floors was out of question. After weighing the pros and cons of different flooring options, I decided to go with laminate. Here are some of the reasons that got me convinced.

Aesthetics and Durability

I wanted something that will have the look and the feel of real wooden planks, as well something that is durable enough to withstand the high traffic in the kitchen and the living room. And since my apartment has an open floor design, I thought it would be a good idea to use the same flooring type in both rooms to create a seamless flooring look as well as to make my home appear bigger. After spending hours researching, I finally found laminate that I loved. It was a hand scraped one with a finish that makes it look just like an expensive hardwood floor. Since I wanted to have the same flooring in the entire space, I had to make sure the kitchen floor will be able to withstand spills and foot traffic. This one was the perfect combo – sturdy, resistant to scratches, dents and stains. Love at first sight!

Price

I paid much less money for my laminate floor than I would have paid for a hardwood one. Although my apartment is not really big, my budget at that moment didn’t allow me to choose hardwood as it is a rather expensive investment. And since installing laminate flooring is a DIY project, this also helped me save a few bucks on installation. With the help of a friend, we easily installed the floors in a single day.

Maintenance

With so many things to keep in order and clean in the kitchen (washing dishes, cleaning appliances, cupboards and countertops), the last thing I wanted was a kitchen floor that required high maintenance. This feature truly was among the main reasons why I chose laminate as my kitchen floor. All I need to do to keep it clean is sweep it and mop it. Convenience at its finest!
